COMPOSITOGRAPHY:
TIME - MOTION - STRUCTURE
This portfolio is a meditation on the intersection of natural, technological and human movement – the ephemeral tracks of time through motion. Compositography is my signature term that describes my creative process of layered photographic abstraction. Nature’s hidden choreography and patterns are revealed and layered: bird flight; airborne machine; running human; the marks of human breath.
Utilizing chronophotography and other techniques, my abstractions reveal motion, time, and structure, where multiple elements form singular images. Viewers are invited to contemplate the relationship between the natural and mechanistic, along with our perceptions - how much we miss in the rush of daily life, and how much we don’t see. I find solace in these sculptural flow patterns—reminders that beauty and meaning persist, often just beyond the edge of our awareness.
My creative work involves spontaneity, pre-planning, cooperation from mother nature, and some luck. There’s an aspect of “not knowing” and openness that occurs when I’m on location, and I’ve learned to be patient and let the opportunity of timing reveal itself at the correct time. This is an on-going project with more work planned. -
