While the availability of affordable housing collapses and eviction rates and financial instability surpass crisis levels, my ongoing multi-media project - Where the Heart Is: Portraits from American Trailer and Mobile Home Parks investigates and advocates for this deeply impacted housing form and its residents. This collaboration with residents and housing advocates challenges the ingrained stereotyping of the estimated 22 million Americans who live in manufactured home communities, as stigmatized trailers and mobile homes are being rebranded. Photographic portraits of residents and their homes, video interviews, drone footage, and quotes from residents reveal and archive what is being lost in their communities, while amplifying residents’ and advocate’s voices.
All images of place are archival pigment prints on photographic paper, while portraits of people are dye-sublimation prints on recycled aluminum. Single images (of both place and people) are printed at 16.5" x 24.75" and frame at 18”h x 26.25”w, while grid images print at 16.5" x 47.5" and frame at 18”h x 49”w. All are limited edition and typically are framed in 1.5"d white wood, gallery-style frames.
