A collaborative portrait project created with residents of a Montréal homeless shelter, pairing formal black-and-white portraits with photographs made by participants using disposable cameras to explore shared authorship, dignity, and lived experience.
The project is presented as archival pigment prints. Each participant is exhibited as a single installation unit: one large black-and-white portrait printed at 24 x 36 inches, surrounded by six color photographs made by the participant, printed at approximately 12 x 18 inches. The portraits are printed on cotton rag paper. Participant photographs, made using Kodak FunSaver disposable cameras, are printed in color to preserve their original tonal character and material quality. In exhibition, each participant’s images are grouped as a cohesive set, reinforcing shared authorship and maintaining visual dialogue between representation and self -representation. The modular format allows the installation to expand or contract depending on venue size while preserving the integrity of each participant’s visual narrative.
