Morning Is a Long Way Home

  • My photographs attest to the fact that I’ve found the world to be a generous place.

I use a camera to explore the psychological depth and texture of our inhabited landscape. Essential to my work, forged out of my own experiences and understanding, is the conveyance of suffering, loneliness, love, and the perception of beauty. The ability to sense these things, to a large degree, is what makes us human.

The images included in my submission are part of a book I have titled, Morning Is a Long Way Home. Its five chapters, in sum, contain 46 photographs taken in several countries over the last several years. Though disparate in subject matter, my vision of life unifies this work. The photographs in this book show the extraordinary in the ordinary, and in so doing, point towards the universal emotive meanings which flow under the surface. In our increasingly isolated, technology-driven culture, I believe we need to know such deep-felt connections are possible. That is the objective of my work.

Through the Center Santa Fe Photo Symposium, I seek to gain insight from reviewers regarding next steps towards bringing my work to a wider audience through exhibitions and publication. Frank Gohlke has kindly written an Afterword for my book, Morning Is a Long Way Home, and I would like references for an excellent book designer and publisher to realize the book’s publication.

  • I personally print my work using my two Epson P9000 printers, one with ConeColor inks and the other with Piezography black & white inks. My exhibition prints have one of three image sizes: 15x10", 20x13.4", and 26x17.4". All are printed on Hahnemühle Photo Rag.
