'The Aliveness of Ice' brings the elusive world of glaciers alive through abstract imagery evoking glacial structures and their dynamic nature and aims to show why the effects of a warming earth is so detrimental to these rivers of ice. The works are informed by my research into the science of glaciers. Through these visionary images, I hope to bring to the surface an understanding of the aliveness of these un-imagable and unimaginable entities, to ignite the viewer’s imagination and provide inspiration for further investigation into these elusive rivers of ice. Because of the dynamic nature of glaciers, I also pay tribute to one of the many discoveries that glaciologists, acousticians, and seismologists have made through the language of glacial sounds.
