Glimpses of Queens: Life On The Street
Orient, New York

-
The theme of “Glimpses of Queens” features street photographs primarily focusing on people from all walks of life, captured in Queens, New York. Queens is the most ethnically diverse county in the US. In fact, according to the recent U.S. Census, over 47% of its population was born outside the US. NYC has five boroughs, each with their own unique neighborhoods and demographics. Queens, nicknamed "the world's borough" reflects the 130 spoken languages from 120 countries present in the borough. Like the Queens of 50 to 100 years ago, the borough today gets its vitality from a generation of immigrants pursuing a better life by practicing such old- fashioned middle class virtues as hard work, family involvement, assimilation and civic participation.
"Glimpses of Queens: Life on the Street" isn't just a visual essay—it's a vibrant tapestry of stories woven by a diverse population. It's a celebration of resilience, ambition, and the pursuit of the American dream amidst the bustling streets of Queens. The project depicts the human condition in a sensitive and most relatable manner.
Through this engaging series, I delve into the lives of those who power the city's heartbeat, often behind the scenes. From the immigrant entrepreneur chasing success to the essential worker keeping the city humming, each photograph is a testament to their unwavering dedication and contributions and their way of life. Small businesses are an important part of the borough’s economic vitality with two thirds of all businesses employ between one to four people. One sees “Mom and Pop” shops in every corner of this bustling community.
Join me on a journey through the teeming streets of Queens, where every block holds a story waiting to be told, where diversity is not just celebrated but embraced.
Eva is a street photographer who has spent the last seven years capturing the essence of Queens through her lens. As the daughter of Greek immigrant parents, she possesses an intimate familiarity with the borough and its diverse neighborhoods.

My project medium is a series of black and white photographs. I would like them to be printed 12" X 9" for exhibition purposes.
