In Senior Class, I am using my 1973 high school yearbook as a springboard for considering how sixty-somethings assess the past and approach the future. Working with my classmates, I have created new “senior” portraits, to be coupled with contemporary texts they have chosen. Schooled by life, this transition feels different than the exhilaration of high school graduation. With work lives winding down, and daily rhythms shifting gears, do we greet the moment with jubilation or depression, confidence or uncertainty, or a changing mix of emotions? How comfortably do we wear the mantle, “senior citizen”?
