I montage historical letters that were written by Japanese Americans illegally "relocated" into WWII concentration camps and mailed to my family's business, with my contemporary photographs of those sites. I do this work to honor my ancestors. The letters' requests—ranging from hair dye to stomach remedies and, ultimately, dignity—are handwritten and presented in my work with short translations. I believe their powerful representations at their sites of origin serve as a compelling reminder about the fragility of human rights amidst social disruption.
