BRITLAND TRACY

No Man’s Land

Texas, United States • britlandtracy.com

  • I am currently exploring contemporary, conflicting expressions of masculinity in the heavily mythologized 'American West' while living in Marfa, Texas. This secluded artist community with a population of just 1600 people is located in the Chihuahuan Desert, two hundred miles away from the nearest city and one hour away from the Mexican border. I have been documenting the bedrooms, living quarters, personal possessions, and private writings of men and male-identifying inhabitants of this town who have granted me permission to do so. They reveal a range of personal vulnerabilities and systemic reckonings, including creative endeavors, environmental stewardship, class disparities, land ownership, repressed anger and sadness, violence, loneliness, rugged individualism, sexual explorations and boundaries, and existential purpose.

Once completed, the final images will be transformed into a photo/text book.

  • All images are digitally captured and will be printed as archival pigment prints at various sizes, from 6x8 in. to 30x40 in. or larger.
