The project is a retrospective exhibition and parallel book of my four paired- image series.I have been documenting global material culture for more than fifty years. In most contexts, I present my images individually, as straightforward photographic “documents.” But, when I exhibit in fine-art contexts, I present them in pairs. This practice derives from my long-term interest in exploring photography’s ability to function as a visual language. I pair together images with the intention of revealing (or reinforcing) meaning while at the same time generating unusual visual interactions.
